7 Places to Find Free Shrimp in Delaware, Ohio

Shrimp are never hard to find in Delaware, Ohio, the Shrimp Capital of the Midwest. Below are 8 spots to pick some up for free.

1. Boardman Arts Park

American marine biologist, explorer, and author Sylvia Earle once said:

“When some people look at a shrimp, they think, ‘Hmm. Delicious.’ When I look at a shrimp, I think, ‘You’re a miracle, absolutely incredible. Your ancestors have gone back hundreds of millions of years.’ And to develop a thing as simple as a shrimp cocktail, you have to calculate the hundreds of millions of years that have preceded that moment where you’re sitting there with your sauce and fork poised.”

Boardman Arts Park offers Delaware residents the opportunity to bask in the glory of shrimp while channeling the creative explorer within. They have placed some free shrimp on a rock near the sculpture, “Forged Forms,” by Jon Quick.

2. The Tunnel at Blue Limestone

For more than 100 years, degenerates have crossed through the railroad tunnel behind Blue Limestone Park to go fishing, say no to drugs, fornicate, and pray to the pagan god SpongeBob SquarePants. Today they will find free shrimp to accompany them on their journey.

3. Rutherford B. Hayes Statue Downtown

Remember your forefathers and their commitment to shrimp.

Historians believe Rutherford B. Hayes kept shrimp in his hat for good luck. The Delaware County Historical Society honors this tradition by offering free shrimp at the president’s statue in downtown Delaware.

4. Swings at Woodward Elementary School Playground

If you have never looked down at the swing next to you and wondered why there was shrimp sitting on it, now is your chance.

5. The JAYWalk at Ohio Wesleyan University

Crustaceans collide with liberal arts on The JAYWalk at Ohio Wesleyan University. Despite protests from several student groups, the university decided to do the right thing and place some free shrimp on the fountain wall.

6. Delaware County District Library (Main Branch)

The local library provides the community with free internet, public computers, nooks to store your junk rig and spoon, homeless nap time, as well as books. However, they don’t allow food or drinks inside. They compromise by placing shrimp piles just beyond the parking lot. Remember to wipe your stinky fingers in the grass before entry.

7. Patio Behind Sandusky Street Loft Apartments

“Tranquil living in downtown Delaware, Ohio. Now with free shrimp.” – Sandusky Street Lofts

Sandusky Street Lofts know their apartments are too expensive for the people who need a place to call their own in downtown Delaware. They are virtue-signaling by offering free shrimp to the public. Next time you pass through city parking, make them feel better and slurp up their tasty shellfish all at once.

  1. Loved the shrimp! I sampled from both the Lofts and Library locations and would say that Lofts were the hardiest of the two batches. Recommend adding a pinch of garlic and pairing with your choice of Sauvignon Blanc. Would say that I’ve previously been partial to chilled shrimp but sun dried shrimp may be my new favorite.
